I’ve done a very, very sneaky secret thing for the past few Christmases. On Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, I’ve given the first book in The Black Wolf Series away for free. It’s not because it’s a holiday book – it’s just…well, because. But this year, I’m doing something a little different:

I know a ton of indie authors on both sides of the free vs. never, ever free argument. I have my own opinions on the matter, both for and against. I’ve gotta say, though, my yearly free giveaway has always been a blast because it’s about the spirit of the season. It’s never been about exposure – which is why I’ve never advertised it.

There are people out there who just don’t have access to the books they might like to read. Plenty of reasons why, too, but no reason to judge. Especially around the holiday season when cash is already stretched thin and stress levels are often at an all-time high. Those are some of the times we need to escape the most in our own private ways.

There’s a reason I make a very serious effort to read one cheesy Christmas romance every year. You know the kind – ridiculously feel-good, no thinking required, all the good characters are guaranteed to be happy in the end. By the last few weeks of the year, I just need that kind of easy read in my life!

That’s why I like to make The Black Wolf Series accessible to more folks during the holidays. Not because it’s necessarily that type of easy read – sure it’s got plenty of feel-good moments, but there’s definitely darkness in the UNITY universe, y’all. It’s more because I love sharing my books. I write them for myself, but I don’t ever mean to hide them away.
