Tonight, I’m starting my Global Day of Unplugging weekend. The official idea is a 24-hour digital pause, where you power down devices and power up real-world connections. I’m taking that spirit and stretching it across most of the weekend, because honestly? I’ve reached the point where I actively crave a regular digital detox.
I’m not trying to become a person who never looks at a screen again, obviously; that would be a bit tough as an indie author. Plus, I do like the internet. I just don’t like how it affects my nervous system when I spend too much time online. I’ve noticed that being perpetually connected causes me to miss so much of the real world. And I can also admit that the spite-driven side of me wants to reclaim my attention span.
So, here’s the plan: tonight, I’m putting my phone away, ignoring notifications, and walking into the weekend with a little pile of analog comforts.
The Kit
Books (obviously)
If I’m going to be offline, I’ve gotta have options so I can mood-read.
Journaling supplies
I’ve got my traveler’s notebooks and a bag full of pens. I don’t have any prompts; I’ll just see what the weekend brings.
Crafty goodness
I get fidgety if my hands aren’t busy, so I’ve got a few small projects lined up. One is a little terrarium kit, complete with a tiny dinosaur. The other is a wee junk journal I’ve been saving for a rainy (or, if the weather is to be trusted, not-so-rainy) day.

The Intention
My weekend goals are pretty simple: more time outside, more real-world connections, and more attention with purpose. I want to take a walk without earbuds. I want to sit with a book and fully sink into it. I want to make something with my hands while I listen to the birds sing or the ocean crash.
So, I’m disappearing for a couple of days, but nothing is wrong. I’m just taking some time to live without my eyes glued to a screen.
If you’re unplugging too – whether it’s for an hour or all weekend – tell me what’s in your version of the kit. What’s your analog reset activity?
